POOL REPAIR QUESTIONS
We understand that pool issues can be urgent, and we aim to check on your pool as soon as possible. In most cases, we can assess the situation within 24-48 hours, depending on our current schedule. If it’s an emergency, let us know, and we’ll do our best to prioritize your service!
Typically, no—we send a service technician out to diagnose and resolve the issue properly. While some minor concerns may be addressed with basic guidance, most pool problems require an on-site inspection to ensure an accurate solution. Contact us to schedule a service visit.
The frequency of cleaning or replacing your pool filter depends on the type of filter you have:
- Cartridge Filters: Should be cleaned every 4-6 weeks and replaced every 1-2 years, depending on usage and condition.
- Sand Filters: Need backwashing when the pressure gauge is 8-10 psi above normal and a full sand replacement every 3-5 years.
- Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Filters: Require backwashing every 4-6 weeks and a complete teardown and cleaning at least once a year.
Keeping your filter clean ensures better water circulation, improved water clarity, and extends the life of your pool equipment. If you’re unsure, we can inspect and maintain your filter for you!
Signs that your pool filter may not be working properly include:
- Cloudy or dirty water even after running the pump.
- Low water flow from the return jets.
- High pressure on the filter gauge, indicating a clog or dirty filter.
- Leaks or unusual noises coming from the filter system.
- Short filter cycles, meaning it clogs too quickly after cleaning.
If you notice any of these issues, your filter may need cleaning, backwashing, or possible repairs. Regular maintenance helps prevent bigger problems, but if you’re unsure, we can inspect your system and get it back to peak performance!
The right pool filter size depends on your pool’s volume and pump flow rate. A general rule of thumb is to choose a filter that can handle at least 1.5 times the flow rate of your pump to ensure efficient filtration.
Here’s a basic guide:
- Small pools (up to 10,000 gallons): 50-100 sq. ft. cartridge, 1.5-2.5 sq. ft. sand, or 24-36 sq. ft. DE filter.
- Medium pools (10,000-25,000 gallons): 100-200 sq. ft. cartridge, 2.5-3.5 sq. ft. sand, or 36-48 sq. ft. DE filter.
- Large pools (25,000+ gallons): 200+ sq. ft. cartridge, 3.5+ sq. ft. sand, or 48+ sq. ft. DE filter.
Choosing a filter that’s slightly larger than needed helps improve water clarity, reduces strain on your pump, and extends the time between cleanings. Need help picking the right one? We can guide you to the best option for your pool!
